In the Netherlands, around 33 % of women who have ever been in a relationship have experienced violence by an intimate partner during their adult life (European Institute for Gender Equality, 2024).

Recycle wine bottles into candles
At Clara & Lucy, we transform discarded wine bottles into exquisite candles with scents like creamy musk & sandalwood, oak & tobacco, and orange cranberry cinnamon. Each candle is carefully crafted by collecting, cutting, and repurposing wine bottles, then carefully pouring in wax and our unique fragrances. Our mission goes beyond sustainability; we are committed to supporting female survivors of domestic abuse, by helping provide financial security, psychological support, and a sense of community.
To achieve this, we donate 20% of our revenue from candle sales to women’s shelters across the Netherlands. This funds workshops, donations, and creates employment opportunities that empower these resilient women on their path to financial independence. Beyond financial support, we strive to provide psychological support and a supportive community for these women. Our mission goes beyond direct aid; we also aim to spread awareness of such abuse to consumers and educate them on healthy relationships, gender equality, consent, respect, and empathy, as this is the best way to prevent future domestic abuse.
Currently, our candles are popular among university students, but we are expanding toward a B2B model by attending markets and partnering with boutiques to broaden our reach.
